Concept
The process started with a self-portrait shot in the precise composition of a well-known painting, then pushed further, transforming that portrait into a version of the painting's original character using analogous color palettes. It's less a copy than a translation, using someone else's composition as scaffolding to explore color theory and technique firsthand, while still arriving at something that felt like an original illustration rather than a reproduction.
This project explores famous paintings through the lens of self-portraiture, using the original artwork's exact composition as a starting point before reinterpreting it into a unique illustrated character study.
